When we got home from church on Sunday, we were greeted by the fire department and Herriman City, not because our house was on fire but because the neighborhood was flooding! The gutters were full of muddy water gushing down and into the street, and the townhouses behind us were in some serious trouble. The drainage pools were full and the snow just kept on melting, so the pools just kept filling or over flowing I should say. (Our house was fine, just some minor flooding in the backyard.)
I am always in awe when something terrible happens in the community. Not because of the actual event but because of the service that is rendered! The entire neighborhood was out! Some were filling sandbags, some were lending shovels, some were helping carry the bags to the necessary places. It was really neat to see everyone pull together.
Service is one of those things we know we should all do more of but often times we don't. It is kind of like exercising, the hardest part is just getting yourself on the treadmill or what have you, but when you are done you remember how good it feels! It was a great reminder for me of just how lucky we are to have such a great community, and also how true it is that "when ye are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God." The Lord does bless us and truly think that he provides us these opportunities so that we can find true happiness by serving Him!

I heard there was flooding in Herriman. How lucky you are to not have anything worse! I loved your post about 10 minutes! How true that is! I was laughing so hard!
I was wondering if you and Brandon had any flooding at your house when I heard about it. I am glad to hear that you didn't have any major problems. That is pretty cool that your whole neighborhood came together. Even though it was kind of a trying experience, it is neat that you could really see the positive that came from it...which is just like everything else in life, right?
I saw that on the news and thought of you-seeing as you are the only one I know there! I am so glad there was little damage done to your home! Isn't that the truth about service. I often times think of what more I should be doing, because I am so blessed. Let us know if you need some life-preservers!
Crazy! Glad to hear your house is okay. Awesome neighbors, man!
