Brandon asked me the other day if I ever blogged about my Spurrier days, which I realized I hadn't and after nearly seven years there I think I owe it them to give a shout out on my blog. I know it is a little late in coming since I have been gone since October but hey, here it is anyway!
The Things I LOVED...
1. MY BOSS! Seriously I could not have asked for a better boss or bosses I should say (It's a father/son practice). They were constantly giving us little gifts and perks just for being their employees. I swear the men did not know they were doctors because they just didn't have the arrogance that so many do. I miss them a lot and will be forever in debt to them!
2. MY GIRLS! It was so awesome to be able to go to work and work with some of your BEST friends! When you spend 10+ hours a day with someone you get to know A LOT about them. I miss having them to talk to about the Bachelor or 90210 or American Idol or whatever else the current rave is! I also miss having someone to complain to. It was nice to release some frustrations on to my poor girls!
3. LUNCH DATES! Seriously we had some sweet lunch hours and had a few favorite joints to hit for lunch. Not that I don't go out plenty now, but McDonald's with your toddler isn't quite the same as La Puente!
4. A DAY OFF! I have come to realize that as a mother you do not get days off. At work you do and as odd as this may sound I sometimes felt like going to work was a day off from the Can-man! And even more odd, I would find myself looking forward to the days we had off at from work. There is something about the phrase "day off" that makes it seem different than all the other days!
5. THE PAYCHECK! The money I brought home was just a nice little spending pad, it was mine to do what I wanted with. Sometimes I soooo miss the benefit of a little extra flow!
6. THE PATIENTS! I really ENJOYED my job! I loved working with the kids, and I even found myself quite fond of some of the parents. Not too mention a couple "hot dads" as we liked to call them. It was so fun to see the beginning results and the end result of each patient and in 7 years I saw a lot of them!
7. FEELING APPRECIATED! After 7 years you pretty much know how to do your job blindfolded and single handedly. Being a stay at home mom, you go on a new adventure almost everyday and many of those days are frustrating and unappreciated. Sometimes you get lost in the title and forget you have talents, when at work you can see the results of your good doings immediately while with-in the home it may take years for you to see the results of your hard work.
The things I DON'T miss so much...
1. THE ALARM GOING OFF AT 5AM! We saw our first patient at 7AM which means I usually had to be there by 6:40 to get ready for the day. Add to that about 30 minutes of commute time (on snowy days add another 30) and get ready time and you have an alarm clock going off at approximately 5AM!
2. C & THE BABYSITTER! It was so hard to get C to a sitter when B was out of town. It was even more hard to find a back up sitter when needed. I love that he can sleep in and wake up at his leisure. I think he is a happier kid and our relationship is much different now. I would have to say I think he is a bit of a mama's boy now. I love being able to take Cannon to music class, have play dates, see him learn new things everyday and being the one he relies on to read a book, or make him lunch or go to the park etc. You don't get this time back.
3. THE COMMUTE! It wasn't a bad commute that early in the morning, but after work it could be a bear! Add a little bad weather and I wanted to pull my hair out and suddenly C has been at a sitter's house for 13hrs!
4. THE COMMITMENT! I know that sounds so lame considering I only worked 2 days a week. But I must say it is nice to have the flexibility to whatever, whenever and know that I am not committed to 2 days a week!
5. Again THE PATIENTS! There were a select few who I would be happy NEVER seeing again. When you see 300 people a week you are bound to dislike a few!
For the most Part I LOVED my job and I MISS it OFTEN! I am so glad that I am fortunate enough to stay home with Cannon, but I will tell you that quiting that job was one of the HARDEST choices I ever made. I LOVE MY SPURRIER FAM and I quite MISS THEM!
NEED BRACES? Check them out! Steve Spurrier is the BEST ORTHODONTIST IN THE SALT LAKE VALLEY and he has the BEST OFFICE MANAGER EVER! You will NOT be disappointed if you go there and I can promise it is worth the commute if you live on the West side!

No one has made a comment....NO WAY??? We miss....oh how I miss you. Enjoy your time at home. At least we will always have the memories.
I don't know anyone who likes their job that much...I work from home in my pajamas all day and don't really like it that much. Sounds like an awesome place to work! I bet it was hard quitting for sure - but definitely worth it. AND I wish I could have been around to be the sitter for Cannon...boo!
I like this post! I hardly ever comment on blogs but here I go haha. You know we miss you at Spurriers...its definitely the best! But you are so lucky to be home with Cannon and, in a few months, your sweet little girl!Oh, and lets hit up La Puente ASAP!
